Nora Kelly and Corrie Swanson return in new exciting adventure in neighborhood of Area 51。 As usual this is a pretty fast read with a number of interesting plot twists and turns。 Reading this is like getting back together with longtime friends。 They leading characters are great, and the story has a nice combination of archaology and sci-fi involved。 Douglas Preston and Lincoln Childs have a great writing style and are fun to read!

I can always count on a book by Preston and Child to engage me with unputdownedness and this one is no exception。 Even better, it features familiar characters like Nora Kelly。 The writing is exceptional as always and though the subject matter can get a bit 'out there' at times, the story roped me right in。 Outlandish at times but always exciting, I enjoyed this book immensely。 I can always count on a book by Preston and Child to engage me with unputdownedness and this one is no exception。 Even better, it features familiar characters like Nora Kelly。 The writing is exceptional as always and though the subject matter can get a bit 'out there' at times, the story roped me right in。 Outlandish at times but always exciting, I enjoyed this book immensely。 。。。more

Love this new series featuring Nora Kelly (archaeologist) and Corrie Swanson (FBI agent) who are tossed into another murderous case involving the 1940s Roswell, NM crash。 Fast reading, lots of twists and turns, and a very satisfying ending。 Preston and Child are at their best again and the NM settings are true to the state。

Wow, when I picked up my hold copy at the library I was stunned at the thickness of the book (560 pages), then I noticed it was the large print edition。 Whew!I have read just about everything these two have written separately (inc。 non-fiction and saw the documentary with Preston) and together and I accept and enjoy the more fantastical elements。 They include it here as well, though some characters and readers do/may disagree with the subject matter being fantastical。 Despite what Nora and the t Wow, when I picked up my hold copy at the library I was stunned at the thickness of the book (560 pages), then I noticed it was the large print edition。 Whew!I have read just about everything these two have written separately (inc。 non-fiction and saw the documentary with Preston) and together and I accept and enjoy the more fantastical elements。 They include it here as well, though some characters and readers do/may disagree with the subject matter being fantastical。 Despite what Nora and the team uncover, I found this story line in someways quite tame and conventional。When I finished, I thought about the story。 It's the kind where you can squish it like a marshmallow and sum the entire story in just a sentence or two。 Even though the, to me, common place story line doesn't go beyond the standard trope, the authors do manage to throw in a little character development for Corrie, Nora and Elwyn (oops。。。 sorry, Skip) and set the foundations for an interesting future for the series。 。。。more

Nora Kelly is definitely not your typical archeologist, and Corrie Swanson isn’t a buttoned up FBI agent。 These two have two separate but equal cases going on, trying to figure out how, or if the cases are related, and if Tappen’s funding of the Area 51 dig has dug up more than aliens。I love Nora’s skepticism throughout, no matter what’s going on she doesn’t let anyone or anything change her mind, she weighs the facts。And Corrie finally being a lead agent, especially with everything going on aro Nora Kelly is definitely not your typical archeologist, and Corrie Swanson isn’t a buttoned up FBI agent。 These two have two separate but equal cases going on, trying to figure out how, or if the cases are related, and if Tappen’s funding of the Area 51 dig has dug up more than aliens。I love Nora’s skepticism throughout, no matter what’s going on she doesn’t let anyone or anything change her mind, she weighs the facts。And Corrie finally being a lead agent, especially with everything going on around her, totally makes the story work。Now, the only thing is, who do they really need to worry about? 。。。more

It still seems like yesterday that I was browsing through a Barnes & Noble in New York City and came across a book called RELIC。 I picked it up because it sounded like my type of thriller。 Well, four decades later, I still am amazed by the work of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child。 Whether collectively or individually, they have never taken their foot off the gas pedal as their novels continue to entertain, thrill and embrace innovative ideas from the world of science, archaeology and beyond。The It still seems like yesterday that I was browsing through a Barnes & Noble in New York City and came across a book called RELIC。 I picked it up because it sounded like my type of thriller。 Well, four decades later, I still am amazed by the work of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child。 Whether collectively or individually, they have never taken their foot off the gas pedal as their novels continue to entertain, thrill and embrace innovative ideas from the world of science, archaeology and beyond。The boys are best known for their Agent Pendergast series, but out of that has sprung three books featuring archaeologist Nora Kelly and FBI Agent Corrie Swanson, the latest of which is DIABLO MESA。 Its premise revolves around the Roswell incident of 1947 and the alleged UFO that crashed in the Santa Fe desert。Nora Kelly does not see eye to eye with her boss, Dr。 Marcelle Weingrau, president of the Santa Fe Archaeological Institute。 When he asks her to take on a case working for eccentric billionaire Lucas Tappan, the founder of Icarus Space Systems, she is quick to turn it down and leaves for good。 Nora just does not take the offer seriously, dislikes a member of Weingrau’s team to whom she would have to report, and believes in all the UFO debunkers。Almost immediately after she cleans out her desk and walks out of the institute, Nora is approached by a man who claims to be Lucas Tappan。 When she informs him that she just quit, he says that now they can work together unencumbered。 She thinks it over and gives into the pressure, especially when he agrees to also hire her brother, Skip, and let them bring along their dog。Lucas wants the site of the Roswell crash to be fully excavated。 He shows her around the area and the souped-up, two-bedroom RV that she and Skip would share。 The excavation site is called Diablo Mesa, but no one knows why。 Not long into Nora’s digging, she turns up a large domed head covered in lizard-like skin with two large eye sockets。 It’s hard to get thoughts of an alien out of her mind。 She later digs up a St。 Christopher medal, followed by a skull with a hole in it, indicating the remains of a murder victim。Corrie and her partner, Morwood, are called in and begin working with Nora and Lucas to identify the deceased and a possible motive for the crime。 More corpses, along with a bizarre device that has a label from New Jersey on it, are dug up and taken away by the FBI for further investigation。 Initial results show that the lizard-like skin is the direct outcome of acid used to torture victims prior to their death。One evening, Morwood is paid a visit by a mysterious man named Lime who claims to be collaborating with the U。S。 government。 Lime, of course, is not who he claims to be, and it won’t be long before Nora and Corrie are introduced to the people for whom Lime is actually working。 Let’s just say they make the Men in Black look like preschoolers! The last third of the novel is not to be missed and is impossible to put down。 Everything from Cold War espionage to Soviet agents at Roswell and, of course, our top-secret group that is behind all of this will cause enough suspense and unpredictable thrills that you will not be able to see the next move coming before Preston & Child cast a literary checkmate。 DIABLO MESA is just what thriller junkies require, and this always reliable author duo delivers at every turn。Reviewed by Ray Palen 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I thoroughly enjoyed this latest installment in the Nora Kelly series (which I personally think should be named the Kelly/Swanson series)。 Nora is still a bit annoying in her attitude and stubbornness as a respected archeologist, but Corrie has matured by leaps and bounds in her maturity as an FBI Special Agent。 This was a very unique take on the Area 51 mystery and I am curious if this particular storyline will find its way into further books or even the Pendergast novels。 I would really love t I thoroughly enjoyed this latest installment in the Nora Kelly series (which I personally think should be named the Kelly/Swanson series)。 Nora is still a bit annoying in her attitude and stubbornness as a respected archeologist, but Corrie has matured by leaps and bounds in her maturity as an FBI Special Agent。 This was a very unique take on the Area 51 mystery and I am curious if this particular storyline will find its way into further books or even the Pendergast novels。 I would really love to see Pendergast pop in unexpectedly in this series! 。。。more

This is probably the best book of the series。 I enjoyed。 I also think that maybe they are feeling the female character better。 At least with Nora。 Though again Cory feels like a complete 180 from the character in Still Life for Crows。 I feel like they changed her to fit into a box to be FBI。 All her quirkiness is gone。 However, this installment redeemed the series enough for me to continue it。 The narrator was good。
